Superyacht Refit Yard MB92 Announces Major Expansion

One of the best-known yards for superyacht refit and repair, MB92 in Barcelona, has announced that the Port of Barcelona has extended its shipyard concession to 2050 and increased its shipyard area by 4,000 m², allowing for new development.

The company says that between 2026 and 2028, it will invest over €40 million in infrastructure development, extending quayside areas, introducing new technology, renewing strategic infrastructure including the dry dock, and reducing environmental impacts.

A new initiative, AiguaNova, launched in 2025, will recover greywater from the local leisure centre for uses including yacht washing, facility cleaning and cooling towers, while new wastewater-treatment and collection systems will reduce demand on freshwater resources. The company will study the implementation of a new system to reduce the acoustic impact of shipyard operations.

The company plans to redevelop its Travelift and Syncrolift areas with a new 680-tonne telescopic Travelift that will serve five hardstanding spaces for yachts up to 55 metres. A new 110-tonne electric Travelift will provide dedicated lifting capacity for tenders and smaller support vessels.

“This agreement gives us the space and long-term certainty allowing us to further invest in the shipyard to meet our clients’ needs in the years ahead. The additional capacity and improved infrastructure will provide more efficiency and further elevate service quality as we continue striving for excellence, enabling us to handle increasingly large and complex projects for our clients,” said Jordi Ariet, MB92 Barcelona Managing Director, in a statement.

MB92 says that demand for superyacht refit, repair and maintenance is at an “all-time high”. The company now has facilities in Barcelona, La Ciotat and Vallauris, France, and Neom, Saudi Arabia.

Beyond 2028, MB92 says it will continue investing in its Barcelona facilities. This will allow MB92 Barcelona to apply for a further five-year extension of the concession through to 2055, with the possibility of a subsequent review allowing for an even further extension thereafter, according to the company.
