Superyacht refit yard Amico on the move
On 2 October, a new Genoa Nautical Hub was inaugurated, bringing together three complementary businesses: the Gatti and Genoa Sea Service shipyards and North Sails. The hub sits on 16,000 square metres of land, with an industrial building housing the shipyards, 1,000 square metres of quay space, 356 metres of technical quays, a launch and haul-out dock, and a 140-tonne travel lift.
Gatti Shipyard was acquired in 2024 by Amico Marine. “Amico Marine is participating in the Hub through Gatti, a company acquired in 2024 specifically with the aim of completing the range of services offered in the refit sector, extending it to medium-sized vessels,” said Andrea Amico, business developer at Amico Marine, at the opening ceremony. “The Nautical Hub integrates the professional boating system that has developed in this area of the Port of Genoa and, more recently, in the Eastern Waterfront, whose nautical vocation makes the Hub unique at an international level.”
Amico Marine proposed the idea of turning Genoa into a superyacht hub in 2015 as part of a large expansion of the shipyard’s capabilities. Construction on new facilities started in 2018 as part of that plan.
The inauguration of the Hub was only the latest expansion news from Amico Shipyards, which dates its history to 1799, when Matteo Amico established a yard in Loano, 60 kilometres from Genoa. Today, the yard operates on a 60,000-square-metre space, including 12 covered refit and repair areas.

Amico Marine has recently announced a new Technical Network to deepen connections with key technical suppliers
In April this year, the company rebranded itself as Amico Marine, with the aim of representing itself as an integrated system for refit services for superyachts. In July, Amico Marine announced the launch of its new Technical Network, which formalises Amico’s partnerships with key OEM suppliers: Akerboom, Alukwa, CGT, De Keizer, Jastram, Magnus Marine, RTN Reintjes, Rubber Design, Telemar, VBH, Voith Italy, Xeamos, and Xquip.
The aim of the network is to create a more integrated and efficient approach that combines the expertise of both Amico and its suppliers. This, Amico said, enables manufacturers to deploy technicians and resources only when needed, while still benefiting from close cooperation and support from the shipyard’s technical teams.
At the latest edition of the Monaco Yacht Show, Amico Marine won a Blue Wake Award in the Shipyard category for its sustainability efforts, including a 1MW solar array on its facilities.
The BoatPro 2026 report noted that nearly 40% of superyachts over 30 metres LOA underwent at least some form of refit work in 2025, but a lack of space is proving challenging. A report by Deloitte commissioned by SYBAss noted that “unlike the cyclical nature of new construction, refit activity is a recurring necessity that ensures yachts remain competitive and safe throughout their long lifespans.” The report also highlighted the demand for refits created by modernisation and environmental upgrades needed to keep vessels compliant with evolving standards.
