Rolls-Royce Power Systems to supply mtu NautIQ Bridge to Overmarine

Rolls-Royce Power Systems has expanded its role in the superyacht B2B business following a new partnership with Italian builder Overmarine to supply the mtu NautIQ Bridge yacht bridge system alongside 64 mtu Series 2000 engines. According to mtu, Overmarine has relied on the 2000 series of engines for years, with almost all of its vessels powered by the range.

With the mtu NautIQ Bridge, Rolls-Royce Power Systems offers an integrated product for single-source control across the entire vessel. This solution combines the bridge, energy management, and propulsion systems into one unified setup.

The integration of mtu propulsion systems, SmartBridge, and automation technologies creates a unified digital environment that helps manage energy flows and reduce emissions.

The new mtu NautIQ bridge, launched in 2025, was designed for yachts between 30 and 40 meters in length. The bridge combines the technology of high-end systems for steering, control, navigation, and alarms into a scalable, cost-effective solution, while maintaining integration, upgrade options, and a high-quality operating concept. The NautIQ Bridge is also “prepared for AI-supported decision assistance, predictive maintenance, and other new innovations”. Rolls-Royce drew on the expertise of Team Italia Marine, the specialist in bridges and automation, which was acquired by Rolls-Royce in 2023.

With the new framework agreement, the steering and propulsion systems are now even more closely integrated — this simplifies construction and increases comfort for our owners,” said Overmarine CEO Maurizio Balducci.

Rolls-Royce Power Systems has developed a “From Bridge to Propeller” strategy, which involves supplying complete propulsion systems that include energy management and automation alongside power and propulsion solutions. Similar strategies are employed by competitors such as Wärtsilä, ABB, and Kongsberg Maritime.
