Rolls-Royce Power Systems introduces a new bridge concept for superyachts
Rolls-Royce Power Systems has released the new mtu NautIQ Bridge "Point Break" concept at the Monaco Yacht Show 2026. Designed for new semi-custom yachts of around 50 metres, Point Break combines advanced digital technologies with a new architectural concept, redefining the bridge as both a command centre and an integral part of the yacht’s living environment.
“Our customers are looking for ways to maximise onboard space without compromising safety or operational readiness. With Point Break, we have reimagined one of the yacht's most space-intensive operational areas to address evolving customer expectations,” said Christian Paolini, Managing Director, Bridge & Automation Systems at Rolls-Royce Power Systems in Italy.
“By combining advanced digital technologies with a new architectural approach, we have created a bridge that enhances operational efficiency, supports captains and crews, and returns valuable onboard space to its original purpose: being enjoyed by owners and guests. Point Break reflects our vision for the future of yacht bridge design.”
The dual-purpose bridge concept integrates the wheelhouse into the yacht's living environment whenever navigation is not underway, while remaining fully operational and immediately available when required.

The concept supports future AI functionality
The concept features a next-generation Human-Machine Interface (HMI) designed to make navigation more intuitive, efficient, and user-friendly. A vertical display arrangement reduces the required onboard footprint and enhances situational awareness, while an advanced Head-Up Display projects navigation information directly into the captain's field of view.
When navigation is not taking place, the displays retract, creating an open space that becomes part of the lifestyle experience. This enables designers and shipyards to rethink interior layouts and create greater flexibility without sacrificing operational readiness.
The concept also anticipates the next generation of digital onboard solutions through the integration of future AI-supported functionalities for onboard documentation management and full compatibility with mtu NautIQ Foresight, Rolls-Royce's platform for predictive engine and systems health management. Together, these technologies enhance operational awareness, simplify maintenance planning, and support captains and crews in daily operations and maintenance planning.

The Point Break concept is part of mtu's “From Bridge to Propeller” approach
“As part of the mtu NautIQ ecosystem, the concept further reinforces the company's ‘From Bridge to Propeller’ approach, in which propulsion, energy management, and automation work in tandem,” said Lukas Köhler, Senior Vice President Global Marine and Mining at Rolls-Royce Power Systems.
Rolls-Royce Power Systems is headquartered in Friedrichshafen in southern Germany, with a product portfolio that includes mtu-brand high-speed engines and propulsion systems for ships, heavy land, rail, and defence vehicles, and for the oil and gas industry.
