Elite thermal imaging for superyachts from Teledyne FLIR
Superyachts in need of security can take comfort in the latest thermal imaging paired with AI from Teledyne FLIR. The M560 is an elite, AI-powered multi-spectral camera system for marine applications. The M560 combines a cooled mid-wavelength thermal sensor with a 4K ultra-low-light visible camera, a 12 km ITAR-free laser rangefinder, and a long-range laser spotlight. The M560 integrates sensor payloads into a rugged three-axis stabilised gimbal housing, offering superior long-range detection capabilities and image stabilisation.
Teledyne FLIR specialises in military-grade tech and applications. The M560 features AI target tracking, which detects, classifies, and tracks vessels, buoys, and people using thermal and visible sensors. This system minimises false alarms.
The thermal detection range of vessels with the M560 is over 70 kilometres. A 25x optical zoom lens allows for long-range target identification. Whether tracking fast-moving targets or scanning distant horizons, the M560's ultra-low-light sensitivity augments thermal imaging and delivers target recognition.
“Our thermal cameras were not just developed for collision avoidance,” says Adam Murphy, FLIR Director of Product Management, in a 2025 blog post. “Safe passage and security are always top of mind for vessels with high-value assets on board.” Murphy said that high-resolution thermal sensors paired with long-range zoom lenses and features like automatic surveillance mode ensure captains and crew can remain vigilant.
When paired with a radar system, operators can establish “guard zones” that automatically acquire targets and send tracking information to the camera for an effective early-warning system. FLIR’s proprietary Nexus integration software and native IP streaming allow remote viewing and control.
